HERE IS much to admire in James Fallows’s More Like Us: Making America Great Again, based on his reportage from Japan, where he lived with his family for several years. It is definitely not a book about Japan, trade deficits, industrial policy, or protectionism. Instead it is a rumination on America’s unique qualities, which the author has come to appreciate from abroad.
